Shaping tomorrow’s skills: Record number of apprentices at Orskov Yard
Educating young people for a future in the maritime industry is a responsibility we take very seriously. By the end of 2025, 37 of nearly 200 blue-collar workers at Orskov Yard were apprentices. This is the highest number ever had and is well above our goal of keeping at least 10% of our workforce in training programs.
Our integrated apprenticeship programme reflects our belief in learning by doing, in developing skilled professionals, in sharing knowledge across generations, and, not least, in maintaining our competitive edge.
The apprentices at Orskov Yard are actively involved in daily work, learning from experienced employees, working on real projects, and gaining hands-on experience in the docks, workshops, and on board vessels.
We started our structured apprentice intake in 2013 with the launch of the Maritime Apprenticeship Program, which began as a way to address skills shortages and has today grown into a strong partnership across Northern Jutland’s maritime industry.
Today, this successful program facilitates 10 companies, 70 active apprentices, and has recently celebrated apprentice number 150 receiving his apprenticeship certificate 👏
“Education is crucial to securing the future of the maritime industry. I am proud that Northern Jutland can work closely together to pass on maritime skills to the next generation. This is essential if we want to be able to take on all the exciting tasks that await us in the future,” said Christina Ørskov, Director at Orskov Yard.
