Bringing education and working life closer together
Recently, Christina Ørskov once again spent the day with the primary school class from Frydenstrandskolen in Frederikshavn that Orskov Yard has followed since first grade. It is really special to see how the students develop over the years and how their curiosity about career opportunities continues to grow.
This time, the visit included a first-time visit to one of our floating docks, where they gained insight into everyday life at the yard and the many functions that keep a modern maritime company running.
We shared valuable conversations about part-time jobs, CV writing, and what matters to them when applying for their first job. These discussions are an important part of the interaction with our adoptive class. For us, it is about bridging the gap between school and working life, while making the maritime industry more accessible and relatable to the next generation.
It’s important to us to give young people realistic insight into the many opportunities available within the maritime industry – both in the skilled trades and in the many other functions that support a shipyard operation.
– When young people are given the opportunity to get close to the company, meet employees, and experience everyday working life, we help make the pathway into the industry feel more approachable and less overwhelming, says Christina Ørskov, Director at Orskov Yard.
This naturally aligns with our strong focus on apprentice programs and maritime education. If we, as an industry, want to secure the maritime competencies of the future, we must open our doors early and show young people the opportunities within the industry.
Thank you to 7. B for another great visit. We look forward to welcoming you back to the yard.
