100 vessels in five years: A milestone for Orskov Yard’s Dock 5
Since its inauguration in 2021 as Denmark’s first newly built floating dock in more than 40 years, Dock 5 at Orskov Yard has welcomed vessels from near and far.
M/S Vesterålen from Hurtigruten, now at the yard, holds the special honor of being the 100th vessel to enter Dock 5. Today, we brought together the staff to celebrate this significant milestone in the machinery and pipe workshop next to the dock.
“This milestone deserved to be marked. The journey from identifying the market need to design, construction, commissioning, and daily operation has been incredibly exciting for us. Five years on, we have no doubt the investment was the right decision. Many of the vessels serviced in Dock 5 would not fit into our other docks, and the facility has strengthened our capacity and market position,” said CEO Lars Fischer.
Dock 5 measures 180 metres in length, 30 metres in internal width and 8.5 metres in depth. Built at Turkish HAT-SAN Shipyard, the floating dock marked a major strategic step in expanding our capabilities at Orskov Yard.
Alongside the construction of the dock, we developed a dedicated shore facility, including 160 metres of quay for positioning the floating dock and a further 200 metres of quay to accommodate additional vessel calls.
As Dock 5 has become busier, we have continued to invest in the infrastructure. We have built a new 1,600 sqm machinery and pipe workshop and installed a large rail-mounted tower crane to support increasingly complex projects. Most recently, we have begun constructing 500 sqm of modern office and meeting facilities,a natural next step in supporting our continued growth.
From the first docking in 2021 to vessel number 100 today, Dock 5 has become an integral part of Orskov Yard’s development. Across the yard our focus remains the same: delivering quality, predictability and performance. We continue to invest in capacity, competence and long-term partnerships with shipowners around the world.
